Capital Festival BC Day Celebration
From 11:00am till dusk on Monday August 2 the FREE Capital Festival BC Day Celebrations will feature over 50 musicians and artisans on three stages.
Surrounded by natural beauty and within a short walk of the Inner harbour, St. Ann's Academy offers a wonderful family site for entertainment, that connects to Victoria's vibrant downown and historical past.
As part of the BC Day celebrations Capital Festival Productions will also present three performances of Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel at St. Ann's Academy on July 31st and Aug. 2nd.
Set outside in the gardens this hour long version of the classic children's opera is a great event for the whole family. Utilizing this idyllic setting as a backdrop for the famous voyage of two children abandoned by their parents, the audience will follow the singer/actors to the witch's cottage where they must think fast to save their lives. Capitalizing on Victoria's love of the theatrical, CFP will bring the experience of hearing and seeing this gorgeous piece of music up close and personal to visitors and locals on this festive holiday weekend.
The talented cast of emerging young singers features Sarah Pelzer, star of last year's Blue Ridge Theatre line up and Atomic Vaudeville core member as Hansel, and Sahara Sloan, Symphony Splash soloist and winner of David Foster's Search for a Star. Lisa Hall, artistic director of Veselka Ukrainian dancers will add the magic of angels and woodland creatures to the production.
Performances of Hansel and Gretel will be: Saturday July 31st at 2.00pm, with a special added chamber concert at 4.30pm in St. Ann's chapel of Classical and contemporary vocal music performed by the soloists of Hansel and Gretel; and Monday August 2nd at 1.00pm and 4.00pm.
